WALLA WALLA 2026

Bike Camp Walla Walla

June 7-12

All BRNW tours are built around the riding routes. And typically the routes are the main star of the show. But spending quality time in Walla Walla – while riding as much or as little as you want? That’s more than a bike tour; it’s a happening.

Whitman College, the city of Walla Walla, the dozens of local wineries, the exquisite restaurants and the local merchants are rolling out the red carpet for you. It's the inaugural Bike Camp Walla Walla, a new five-day cycling event hosted on the Whitman campus that encompasses all that’s great about Walla Walla.

You can stay in a modern dorm room, an artfully rejuvenated hotel or a stately historic landmark. Eat farm-to-table meals at Whitman’s Cleveland Commons, named “the healthiest place to eat in Eastern Washington,” and also try some of the fine dining restaurants that have blossomed alongside the renowned wine scene. And, of course, sample the seemingly endless bounty of wines made within a stone's throw of town.

Ride a short option, ride a long route, or take a day off the bike to enjoy some authentic local activities. This event is e-bike-friendly, and it's also the perfect chance to bring a non-riding partner along - there will be activities each day while you ride, or your partner can just relax and explore.

Learn about Whitman’s innovative and reparative Šináata Scholarship program, a four-year, full-ride opportunity for Tribal members, which will receive 100% of the net proceeds of this event. There are so many good reasons to immerse yourself in this experience. But here's the most basic appeal: You can enjoy five days of riding, eating, drinking and relaxing… and only unpack once.

Daily Route Descriptions

Day 0 – Sunday, June 7: Check-in, Whitman College

Everyone arriving in town to enjoy this new experience will come to the Whitman Campus to check in for the event. You’ll get your campus access pass, your event swag and pre-orders, and your dorm or tent assignment if you’re staying on campus.

Then we’ll all gather in the Cleveland Commons center for dinner, followed by a welcome ceremony that includes a Tribal drum circle, followed by information you’ll need for the week.

Note: Don't freak out about the elevation profiles below! The increments on the left side are very small, so these aren't really mountain ascents. Yes, there's climbing, but it looks worse here than it is in reality.)

Day 1 – Monday, June 8
Long Option: Lavender Loop (51 miles, 1,970 feet) RWGPS Route Link
Short Option: Local Loop (33 miles, 1,330 feet) RWGPS Route Link

Start the week, and the day, with a jaunt through the leafy, historic residential district, including a quick detour through lush Pioneer Park. Then you’ll head out into the foothills, in the shadow of the Blue Mountains. Next up: A spin past (and through) more vineyards than you can count. The long option swings out to a rest stop at a working lavender farm, where you can meet the owner. Both options finish by heading back to town, for a sampler platter of a first day.

Day 2 – Tuesday, June 9
Long Option: Touchet/Luckenbill (65 miles, 2,440 feet) RWGPS Route Link
Medium Option: Touchet Loop (40 miles, 920 feet) RWGPS Route Link
Short Option: Whitman Mission (21 miles, 525 feet) RWGPS Route Link

For Day 2, the long option offers the quietest and most rural riding of the week. The medium option cuts the mileage down but still includes a rest stop and the Whitman Mission National Historic Site, where you’ll learn some important and unvarnished history. If you want a third choice, the short option doesn't have a rest stop, but it goes to the Mission site and back. On the long option, enjoy a delightful rest stop at a park in Touchet, then head north for the canyons and open country. As you ride past a verified Lewis and Clark campsite, you may not see a vehicle for miles. Whichever option you ride, it'll carry you back into the history of this area.

Day 3 – Wednesday, June 10
Long Option: Waitsburg and Prescott (51 miles, 2,570 feet) RWGPS Route Link
Short Option: Waitsburg Roads (26 miles, 1,230 feet) RWGPS Route Link

The quick loop to Waitsburg and back is a staple of Walla Walla riding – and we’ve expanded it for the long option to make it even more interesting. The short version hits the highlights of both Middle and Lower Waitsburg roads, making a scenic loop through rolling fields. For the long option, instead of turning around once you reach Waitsburg you'll veer off to the west, to the small town of Prescott and a rest stop in its leafy park. Finally, both options traverse a series of rollers through seemingly endless wheat fields back to Walla Walla.

Day 4 – Thursday, June 11
Long Option: Umapine Plus Kooskooskie (65 miles, 2,780 feet) RWGPS Route Link
Short Option: Umapine (33 miles, 890 feet) RWGPS Route Link

Today starts with a spin through College Place (home of Walla Walla College), followed by a stop at charming Frog Hollow Farm. After a zig-zag south and east, it’s a rest stop at another park in Milton-Freewater. The short option heads north back to Whitman College, while the long option adds some pleasant meandering that takes you to Mill Creek Road, and our rest stop at Walla Walla Vintners. From there, it's your choice: follow Mill Creek to Kooskooskie on a scenic out-and-back (very worth it), or turn for home and some extra relaxation time.

Day 5 – Friday, June 12
Long Option: Harris Park (54 miles, 2,030 feet) RWGPS Route Link
Short Option: Frazier Farmstead (29 miles, 890 feet) RWGPS Route Link

We've saved arguably the prettiest ride for the final day. You'll head straight south, again traversing some prime wine country, crossing the border into Oregon and stopping in Milton-Freewater. Then the long option angles southeast, following the south fork of the Walla Walla River, as the trees close in and the road grows narrower. Stop at the Imtwaha Fish Hatchery on the way out to picturesque Harris Park. Both the long and short options bisect the bountiful orchards west of Walla Walla on the way back.
