Executive Director

Jim has taken over as BRNW’s Executive Director, succeeding Sanna Phinney, after successfully starting up and directing two other similar tours.

A longtime marketing writer and editor who owns Word Jones, Inc., Jim is also an avid cyclist and the author of “75 Classic Rides: Oregon.” He started doing marketing for Cycle Oregon in 2006 and quickly figured out that the bike-tour world is a pretty great place to work. He eventually developed and directed two brand-new events – Cycle Greater Yellowstone and Cycle Adirondacks – for nonprofit conservation groups. When he found out about the upcoming opening at BRNW, he jumped at the chance to get back to the Northwest (really, the best part of the country for cycling, right?). He came on a 2016 BRNW ride and saw how the organization runs tours: very well. He vows to maintain the feel and traditions of the BRNW rides, and maybe add a little pizzazz here and there.

Assistant to Director

As a self-proclaimed “serial feeder” and bike junkie, Sue brings her love of food, fun and bikes to her roles with BRNW. She has helped lead the Rest Stop team for two years, and is expanding her role by taking on year-round duties as an executive assistant to Jim.

After many years in hot kitchens and stuffy restaurants, she loves working outside and refueling hungry riders. As she says: “It’s a week-long, rolling party with great people and healthy appetites... what’s not to love?” Rest assured you won’t leave bored or hungry!

When not on her bike or jumping over things, she enjoys the amenities of her new Net Zero home, planning travel adventures, making pizza for friends in the backyard wood-fired oven, and spending time with her faithful pup. In the wintertime, she can be found playing in the snow in the high country, and she manages the Nordic Ski Center at Mt. Bachelor.
